Getting Healthy Across Kansas

So, eating is great - it can be an adventure, a way to bond with friends and share memories. However, as I've come to learn, if the focus is always food, especially high-fat, high sugar and processed food, eating can be an unhealthy habit. A good way to deal with the negative effects of unhealthy eating is to eat healthier. However, diet alone does not good health bring.

I'm learning more and more how essential physical activity is for both mental and physical health. It can be a pain to get started on an exercise program - the key is finding an activity that you find enjoyable that doesn't put too much stress on unused muscles too soon. For most of us, if a workout is too boring or if we're too sore the day after, we won't keep doing it.

If you live in the Hutchinson, Kansas area and you want to try some different ways to get fit, this Sunday, April 18 is the perfect opportunity for you to try different fitness lessons. The Don Michael Field Community Workout will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the big field next to the High School at 17th & Severance. Every half hour is something different:

2:00 – Self-defense techniques with Chris Stutzman
2:30 – Cardio Kickboxing with Cardio Mike
3:00 – Dedication of the new Don Michael Field
3:15 – Workout with Coach Dreiling and Coach Delaney of the Hutchinson High School football team
4:00 – Zumba with Katherine Eberly
4:30 – Yoga with Jade Piros

This activity is organized by the Reno County Growth Coalition and Reno County Young Professionals. Join in with your community to enjoy the sunshine, get fit, and rededicate the Don Michael Field at Hutch High. For more information, see the Facebook event page:
